'Man
in the Moon Cycle' marks a return to my interest in the use of 'ready-mades'
or found objects - taking a seemingly familiar everyday object only to deny
its original function and replace it with a new one. Initially the use of the
'ready-made' would simply influence the piece, but as ideas developed regarding
the relationship between the 'ready-made' and its role played within the piece,
subsequent work required specific objects or components. Often spending hours
or days searching for the right part would inevitably involve some kind of compromise,
and lead to a degree of modification in order to suit my requirements. Increasingly
frustrated by this I began to make the 'ready-made', and now spend hours researching
instead of searching, often creating a hybrid which although still being instantly
recognizable, never actually existed and therefore couldn't ever have been a
'ready-made'.
